Leeds United have had a productive summer transfer window this summer, spending over €100 million in new signings. They are even starting to find a lot of success with the acquisitions of Robin Koch and Rodrigo Moreno, of late. But, the Whites are still missing depth in the midfield unit, and it has been highlighted by the injuries to Kalvin Phillips and Pablo Hernandez in these early stages of the campaign.

One such player Leeds United should sign in order to strengthen their depth in the midfield department is Mahmoud Dahoud of Borussia Dortmund. But, is he really worth the outlay for the Premier League side?

Here’s Why Mahmoud Dahoud Could Be Ideal For Leeds United

A central midfielder by trade, Dahoud initially joined Borussia Dortmund from Borussia M’Gladbach as a talented number eight. Unfortunately, he has had a difficult time in Ruhrpott, often struggling with a lack of first-team opportunities under Lucien Favre.

That said, there is no one questioning Dahoud’s ability as the German is an incredibly talented ball-carrier in the middle of the park. He can wriggle his way around tight spaces, thanks to his quick-feet while the midfielder’s marvellous technical prowess means he often finds a way to pick out sensible forward passes.

It could really aid Leeds United, who now have a shallow midfield unit following the injury of Phillips. Jamie Shackleton did an excellent job in the last game but might struggle against stronger opposition, especially as his offensive qualities force Mateusz Klich to operate in that deeper role.

Dahoud, in that regard, is a much more balanced midfielder. He has, in fact, improved his off the ball skills in recent years and is now a useful cog in the second line of press. It bodes well for Marcelo Bielsa, who holds discipline at high esteem.

What Are The Chances Of Dahoud’s Arrival?

Dahoud, much like Mario Gotze, was pretty much written off by Favre for the most part of his tenure as a BVB coach. However, the German has gained a bit of significance due to the congested fixture list that has forced the head coach to make chops and changes to his starting lineup.

Dahoud, in fact, was voted as the Man of the Match in the derby win over FC Schalke on Saturday. But, his future with the Black and Yellows still remains uncertain as Jude Bellingham and Julian Brandt continue to push for a regular place in the starting lineup while the return of Thomas Delaney from injury hasn’t helped either.

Moreover, the 24-year-old’s contract at BVB expires in 2022, so Leeds United could realistically make a move for Dahoud in the upcoming January transfer window. If not, there is a reasonable chance that the Bundesliga giants might be forced to cash in on the midfielder next summer as they look to move on.
