Way back when FPL Towers came out and announced the new changes to the Fantasy Premier League game for the 2024/25 campaign. One change stood out the most: Erling Haaland being priced at £15 million.

Due to the amount of FPL money you will have to lay out on the Norwegian, it gives FPL managers a lot of food for thought. Splash the cash on the forward? Or spread your funds across multiple options? Here are 5 alternatives to Haaland in FPL.

Best 5 Alternatives to Haaland in FPL 2024/2025

Dominic Solanke, Bournemouth, £7.5m

Over the course of the summer, a lot of chat is being had when it comes to Dominic Solanke of AFC Bournemouth. Since England did not select him for Euro 2024, the Englishman has had the summer off.

Last season, Solanke went close to 200 points and is now set at £7.5 million. Bournemouth have been given a mixed start to the season in their first eight. On the one hand, they have potentially favourable games against:

  • Nottingham Forest (A)
  • Everton (A)
  • Southampton (H)
  • Leicester (A)

They also face:

  • Newcastle (H)
  • Chelsea (H)
  • Liverpool (A)
  • Arsenal (H)

A caveat to this selection is that Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea have been linked to the Cherries No. 9. Both teams have arguably better matchups, so this is definitely one to keep an eye on.

Ollie Watkins, Aston Villa, £9m

Another Englishman up for consideration at the start of the season is Ollie Watkins. Having been played sparingly in Germany during Euro 2024, Ollie Watkins will be looking to hit the ground running for Aston Villa at the start of the season. Priced at 9.0, a full 6.0 less than Erling Haaland, it will certainly allow you to spread the FPL money around your squad in the lead-up to GW1.

Looking at the FDR, the overriding colour is green for Aston Villa, with games against:

  • West Ham (A)
  • Leicester City (A)
  • Everton (H)
  • Wolves (H)
  • Ipswich Town (A)

Aston Villa’s toughest game comes in GW2 against Arsenal. But even that might not stop Watkins, who scored against them last season.

Alexander Isak, Newcastle United, £8.5

There is plenty of chatter in Fantasy Premier League circles is Swede Alexander Isak. I can see why too, 8.5 in price for the Newcastle United striker. Newcastle United will be hoping to get back to the Champions League, or at the very least European competition and Alexander Isak will be very much one of the cogs in the Newcastle wheel to make that happen.

Much like Aston Villa, Newcastle United have a few fixtures in green to start the season. Bar Manchester City in GW8, their green fixtures are:

  • Southampton (H)
  • Bournemouth (A)
  • Wolves (A)

Matheus Cunha, Wolves, £6.5m

One player that you might consider is Matheus Cunha of Wolves. There is a little bit of a health warning for the Brazilian and Wolves, though.

In the first seven weeks of the season, Wolves face pretty difficult fixtures against the likes of Arsenal in GW1 as well as Aston Villa and Liverpool in consecutive weeks in GW5 and GW6. After GW7 though, things start to ease for Wolves. Between GW9 and GW14:

  • Brighton (A)
  • Crystal Palace (H)
  • Southampton (H)
  • Bournemouth (H)

All this means is that Matheus Cunha is a keep-an-eye-on striker. The Brazilian is priced at £6.5 and to me, that would be a consideration for a definitely second, if not third, placed striker in your FPL team.

Chris Wood, Nottingham Forest, £6m

Before you scoff at the suggestion of Chris Wood, just hear us out. The New Zealand international ended last season with 14 goals, racking up 131 points.

At just £6 million, this means you can literally choose him and anyone else on this list for the same price as Erling Haaland. Two for the price of one.

Forest have five green fixtures, according to the FDR, with Liverpool sandwiched in between.

  • Bournemouth (H)
  • Southampton (A)
  • Wolves (H)
  • Brighton (A)
  • Fulham (H)

Should I Just Go With Haaland?

The option you must think about is keeping Erling Haaland himself. Pep earlier stated that Haaland had a few niggles. Recently, though, Manchester City played their final pre-season game against Chelsea in the USA, where Erling Haaland scored a hat-trick. Haaland scored twice in the first five minutes, profiting from two disastrous Chelsea mistakes, as Enzo Maresca’s side gifted the Premier League champions an early lead.

Things are pretty green for Manchester City in the first couple of weeks of the season. Ok, they face Chelsea in GW1 and Arsenal in GW5, but please see their green-labelled fixtures below:

  1. GW2: Ipswich Town (H)
  2. GW3: West Ham (A)
  3. GW4: Brentford (H)
  4. GW7: Fulham (H)

In conclusion, this year in FPL, there are a lot of possibilities. Erling Haaland is definitely a candidate for your team, based on the last two season’s stats. But pricing Haaland at £15 million has made us managers think. We are looking around and seeing if we can spread the cash to make our teams better in different departments.

We believe that Haaland is a must-have for that second-week fixture against Ipswich, but after that, it is probably best to spread the funds around the rest of your team.
