DIRIAMBA, Nicaragua – CS Herediano won 1-0 at Cacique Diriangén FC in the 2024 Concacaf Central American Cup on Wednesday night at the Cacique Diriangén Stadium in Diriamba, Nicaragua.
Luis Copete had a header on goal in the 10’ as the hosts attempted to take the lead from a free kick opportunity but was denied by Herediano goalkeeper Aarón Cruz.
Jason Coronel had a shot from outside the box in the 19’ but the attempt was punched away by Cruz.
Matías Galvaliz had an attempt inside the box in the 20’ but was just wide of the right post.
Renzo Carballo received a red card in the 44’ as Diriangén were reduced to ten players.
Everardo Rubio shot from long distance in the 55’ but Diriangén goalkeeper Alfonso Quesada was there for the save.
Leonel Torres had a shot inside the box in the 60’ but was blocked by defender Haxzel Quirós.
Marcel Hernández struck in the penalty area in the 69’ but Quesada was there to deny the visitors again.
José de Jesús González scored the match-winning goal in the 85’ with a strike inside the goal area to put the finishing touch on a shot from Ariel Arauz that bounced off the right post.
Luis Copete received a red card in the 90’+5 and will also serve a suspension for the next encounter.
Aarón Cruz had three saves to collect his second clean sheet of the campaign.
With the result, CS Herediano improved to six points as the leader in Group C. The Costa Rica club will travel to Panamanian side San Francisco FC for their second away encounter on Tuesday, August 22. Cacique Diriangén FC will travel to Panama to face Tauro FC on the same day.
