West Ham are reportedly set to sign young Manchester City winger Carlos Borges and are considering an ambitious move for Juventus’ Dusan Vlahovic.

Borges, 19, is considered to be a hot prospect and could prove to be an excellent long-term investment for the Hammers.

David Moyes has plenty of funds to play with this summer after the £105m sale of Declan Rice to Arsenal. The manager is now looking to bolster his squad as he prepares for Europa League football.

Borges is set to be West Ham’s first signing of the summer. This was confirmed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on Thursday.

On Twitter, he said: “West Ham are closing in on deal to sign Carlos Borges from Manchester City on permanent transfer.”

“Verbal agreement in place for 2004 winger, fee around £14m. As always, Man City will include buy-back clause into the deal.

“Details being finalised, then here we go!”

The Portuguese attacker joined the Man City academy from Sporting’s youth set-up back in 2014. He has remained at the Etihad throughout his short career.

Borges was head and shoulders above the rest last season when playing for the Cityzens’ under-23 side.

The winger made 24 appearances, scoring 21 goals and making 11 assists. This gives him an outstanding average of 1.33 goal contributions per match.

It is, admittedly, a big step up to the Premier League. But Hammers fans will be hoping Borges can live up to his sky-high potential at the London Stadium.

Moyes is now eyeing a more immediate improvement to his team. As evidenced by West Ham’s move for Borges, the manager wants to add more of a goal threat to his side.

As a result, the Hammers are looking to bring in a new striker and have identified Vlahovic as a potential option.

This is according to Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, who claim that West Ham, along with Aston Villa, have made an enquiry into signing the Juventus star.

Vlahovic has also been linked with a move to Tottenham this summer.

The Serbia international joined Juventus in January 2022. He’s netted 23 goals in his 63 appearances so far for the Italian giants.

Juventus are willing to sell him this summer, but only for the right price. And, he certainly won’t come cheap.

Reports suggest the Italian club have slapped a €70m (£60.8m) price tag on Vlahovic. If West Ham matched that fee, he would become their most expensive signing of all time, surpassing Sebastian Haller (£45m).

Given the competition, the Hammers will have to move quickly if they want to sign Vlahovic. So it will be interesting to see if they make a concrete bid for the striker in the next few days.
