This summer has been full of ups and downs for FC Barcelona and consistency has been hard to find. Many of the business dealings that the Catalan club has taken part in have received mixed reactions from the fans. Ultimately, any and every financial call made by Barcelona will be kept a close eye on.
That is because La Blaugrana do not have the liberty to make mistakes or even concede to small errors. Their finances are already in a vulnerable state and the restrictions placed upon them by financial fair play are hardly easy to bypass no matter how they try.
At this point in time, it has even forced the club to sell some of their assets in order to remain competitive on and off the field. Ilkay Gundogan’s departure is already in the works, but it seems that the club has managed to offload another one of its players.
As highlighted by Fabrizio Romano, 20-year-old Senegalese defender Mikayil Faye is set to join French Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais FC, or Rennes FC for short. The French club has agreed to permanently purchase the rights of the player after submitting an official bid last week, and the deal has now been marked by the ever-iconic ‘here we go’.
According to Romano, Rennes will pay up €12 million as a fixed fee for the player, but additional conditions have been added into the deal as well. There is a 25% sell-on clause attached which would mean that Barcelona would get that percentage of whatever transfer fee Rennes ends up selling Faye for in the future if they go down that route.
However, another clause that has been added is a buy-back clause for Barcelona. As per the Italian journalist, FC Barcelona can purchase Faye for a value above €35 million in the future if they believe that he has increased his valuation or if they see him fit enough to help the team from a sporting perspective.
With these additional clauses in place, it seems that FC Barcelona have tried their best to safeguard themselves under different future possibilities. However, Faye was undoubtedly one of the most talented youngsters in Barcelona Atletic and many believed he could have a good chance in the first team.
