Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay looks like he is finally set to leave Old Trafford after Fabrizio Romano confirms that the transfer to Napoli is close to being confirmed.

Heading into the summer transfer window Ineos were keen to start the overhaul of Erik ten Hag’s squad. It has been an impressive summer window with several new faces at Old Trafford with Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui settling in.

The Red Devils have previously been criticised for a poor sales strategy under the Glazers.

The new sporting structure has recognized this issue and has made progress in terms of sales this window.

Scott McTominay now looks set to move to Italy after Fabrizio Romano took to X to say those three words that fans eagerly wait for – ‘Here we go’.

It looked likely for McTominay to move to Napoli but Romano’s infamous transfer signature catchphrase has all but confirmed the move.

The timing was right for Scott McTominay to leave Old Trafford

The Scotland international had been a big part of ten Hag’s plans last season but the manager and the new-look football structure are making strides towards a more possession based style of play.

McTominay’s strengths have more recently been in the opposing box rather than central midfield.

He had become more of an impact substitution at Old Trafford and is keen to play more regularly.

A fresh start in Serie A is a good option for the 27-year-old Scottish midfielder.

McTominay will be hoping he can have a similar impact in Italy to Chris Smalling who reignited his career when leaving Old Trafford for Roma in 2019.
