Manchester United have reached a verbal agreement to sign Cerro Porteno left-back Diego Leon in July 2025, according to Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Red Devils will part with an initial £3.2 million for the 17-year-old Paraguayan, while a further £3.6m could be paid in add-ons.

Man United were not the only Premier League club that wanted Leon, as both Arsenal and Manchester City were also keen on signing the teenage sensation.

However, United have pipped fierce competition, and manager Ruben Amorim will hope Leon can make an immediate impact in the first-team and hit the ground running in 2025-26.

The youngster has already established himself as a key player for the Paraguayan top-flight side and will fancy his chances of moving ahead of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia in the pecking order.

Man United have had to largely rely on Diogo Dalot as their left wing-back in recent games, while Malacia is gradually being reintroduced into action after his return from a long-term injury.

However, Leon’s attacking qualities make him a perfect fit for the position.

He has scored two goals in 19 Paraguayan Primera Division appearances this year and has been widely tipped to become one of the best players in his position, given his all-round qualities.

Leon boasts a solid goalscoring instinct and technical skills on the ball. He will be given the chance to prove himself as Amorim never hesitates to hand youngsters opportunities if they are good enough.

Landing him ahead of the next summer transfer window makes sense, given the number of suitors keeping tabs on him. It could be a deal that ends up proving huge for Man United.
