Adrien Rabiot has agreed personal terms with Barcelona but is likely to stay at Paris Saint-Germain for the rest of the season.
That’s according to ESPN, who report that Rabiot’s representatives have now struck a deal with Barça after opening negotiations at the start of this month.
The LaLiga giants recently denied that an agreement has been reached with the midfielder but ESPN claim he is ready to sign a four-year deal worth €10m-a-year, plus a €10m signing bonus.
Rabiot has now entered the final six months of his PSG contract and is therefore allowed to negotiate a free summer transfer to a new club.
However, the French champions allege that Barça have broken the rules by negotiating with their player before the turn of the year, and they will still try to sell the 23-year-old for a fee this month.
That means a January exit is still a possibility but Barça are naturally reluctant to pay a transfer fee for a player who is willing to join them for free in six months time.
ESPN say Tottenham Hotspur would be interested in signing Rabiot for a fee in January but they would be unable to match Barcelona’s salary offer, and the France international has little interest in joining them anyway.
In the meantime, it will be interesting to see what role he plays in Thomas Tuchel’s side.
Rabiot was not in the squad when PSG took on Stade Pontivy in the Coupe de France on Sunday evening, and the club’s sporting director Antero Henrique suggested last month that he will be “indefinitely benched” after refusing to sign a new contract.
