A brace from Henry Martín propelled América to a comfortable win over 10-man Chivas in an incident-packed Clásico Nacional.
Scorers: Martín 45′, 72′, Córdova 80′
It was a welcome sight to see some fans back in the stands after local authorities cleared the way for supporters to attend the Estadio Akron for the first time this season.
América were the better side in the first half, and were rewarded on the stroke of half time when Martín gave them the lead.
Richard Sánchez’s free-kick found his team-mate, and the striker showed tremendous technique to direct his header beyond the grasp of Raúl Gudiño.
The game swung definitively in the visitors’ favour when Miguel Ponce was sent off for the Flock in the 72nd minute.
Substitute Ponce, who had replaced José Juan Macías just 10 minutes earlier, could have no complaints after he went dangerously over the ball to catch the standing foot of Leo Suárez.
Las Águilas wasted no time in making their numerical advantage count.
Again, they profited from a set-piece, with Sebastián Cáceres flicking on a corner for Martín to power a header home from close range.
Sebastián Córdova rubbed salt in the wound 10 minutes from time after he profited from indecisiveness by Gudiño to walk the ball into an empty net.
The victory keeps América second in the Guard1anes 2021 table, two point behind leaders Cruz Azul.
Chivas are now outside the play-off places as an inferior goal difference sees them slip to 13th.
