Henry Martin and Roberto Alvarado have been dropped from Mexico’s 23-player roster for the upcoming friendly against the United States men’s national team on April 19 due to injuries.

The players traveled to El Tri’s camp to be evaluated by the medical staff, before being ruled out of the game for precautionary purposes. In the case of Martin, the team detected an inflammation around the anterior rectus muscle of the right thigh, while Alvarado suffered from an inflammation of the left biceps femoris muscle.

To replace the two offensive players, head coach Diego Cocca called up Toluca figure Edgar Ivan Lopez and LA Galaxy’s Efrain Alvarez. Lopez could see his senior national team debut against the United States, after having featured only for Mexican youth teams prior.

Alvarez, on the other hand, last played for El Tri in 2021 during a Gold Cup match against Trinidad and Tobago. His inclusion works to diversify the roster, as it leans heavily on Liga MX figures with 21 of the 23 coming from the Mexican league. Alvarez joins Julian Araujo as the only players joining El Tri from abroad.

The squad also sees the return of nine World Cup players: Nestor Araujo, Jesus Gallardo, Kevin Alvarez, Carlos Rodriguez, Luis Chavez, Martin, Roberto Alvarado, Alexis Vega and Martin.
