‘He’ll be a Fantastic Signing’ – Kevin Phillips drops £54m Tottenham man claim | OneFootball

Kevin Phillips is adamant that Tanguy Ndombele will turn out to be a “fantastic signing” after the midfielder spoke out on his time at Tottenham so far.

The 2000 European Golden Shoe winner, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, suggested that the 23-year-old has defied his critics and “will get better and better”.

Ndombele produced another impressive display on Monday as Spurs beat Burnley 1-0 and moved to fifth in the Premier League.

It was only the second time the centre-midfielder has started three consecutive league games for Spurs and the first time he has achieved such a feat under Jose Mourinho.

Speculation was rife regarding the France international’s future this summer but Daniel Levy made it clear that he had no intentions of selling Ndombele a year after buying him for a club-record £54m.

When asked by Football Insider if Ndombele have finally arrived at Spurs, Phillips said:

“I said along that I thought he would come good. I just think that he needed a bit of time to settle in because it can be difficult.

“I heard him saying that the criticism that he received from Mourinho did not hurt him as much as other people thought. He took it in his stride and all that you can do then is get out on the pitch and show it.

“Mourinho is clearly a fan of his if he has started him in the last three Premier League games.

“I think he will get better and better and end up being a fantastic signing for Spurs. Real positive signs.”

Speaking on Mourinho’s public criticism of his last season, Ndombele told Sky Sports: “It was just something that I assimilated and took on board.

“Of course it’s not something that you like to hear, those sort of words, but that was last season and we are looking to the future.”
