Watford have landed midfielder Hector Kyprianou on a five-year deal after his contract with Peterborough United came to an end.

The 23-year-old, who plays for Cyprus at international level, joins on a free transfer and becomes the first signing under new head coach Paulo Pezzolano.

Kyprianou made 140 appearances for Posh, scoring 16 goals in total – including one in their 2-0 EFL Trophy final win over Birmingham at Wembley back in April.

Speaking about the move, he said: "The club matches my ambitions, which are to play as high as possible and reach the Premier League. Our ambitions align, so that is why I chose Watford.

"One of the reasons I joined is that they showed quite a lot of interest in me for a while, and for me that adds a lot of value."

He made his senior debut for Cyprus against Norway last year and already has 10 international caps to his name.

The Hornets finished 14th in the Championship this season, which led to the departure of Tom Cleverley as head coach.
