“He likes Italy and there is interest from an Italian club, but I can’t reveal which one,” Alberto Botines said.
“He has a long-term contract and it will not be easy to take him away from Arsenal, he is the third captain. Right now he is focused on the team’s commitments. He comes from a serious injury and he recovers. We’ll see how the season goes.”
That last bit is telling. So much depends on how this season goes.
If I was Hector, I might feel a little miffed about being by-passed for the captaincy when it was taken from Granit Xhaka to be given to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. As amazing as our frontman is, he’s been at the club five minutes while Hector has been Arsenal to his core for almost 10 years already.
Then again, that he wasn’t annoyed is part of why we love him.
Hector signed a new contract almost exactly two years ago that runs until 2023.
Still, for as long as Unai Emery is in charge of the team at Arsenal, I’m going to worry about players leaving because they’re bored stupid of being part of something rubbish.
