Hearts record first ever win over Rangers, who lose top spot in the ScottishPower Women’s Premier League to Celtic.

Hearts inflicted just Rangers second defeat of the league season, as Katie Lockwood slotted home the only goal of the game when the leaders failed to clear the ball. Rangers paid for missing a number of opportunities, while Rachael Johnstone made several saves to keep them at bay.

Celtic took advantage to move into pole position with six games left of the campaign. Caitlin Hayes’ first-half header was enough for all three points but Celtic goalkeeper Kelsey Daugherty did well to deny Jorian Baucom an equaliser in the latter stages.

Glasgow City had to come from behind to beat Partick Thistle 4-1, as they moved within four points of Rangers. Carla Boyce’s opener was quickly cancelled out by Emily Whelan. Wilma Forsblom and another from Whelan put City in command, with Cori Sullivan completing the scoring.

Hannah Innes and Bayley Hutchison had Aberdeen two up at Montrose, whose Jade McLaren halved the deficit. Hutchison restored the two-goal cushion and although Louise Brown netted to keep Montrose in it with over half an hour to go, the Dons left with all three points.

Hamilton Academical overcame Dundee United 5-2 to get out of the automatic relegation spot, at their visitors expense. Nicola Jameison headed Dundee in front but Freya McDonald levelled from the spot. Accies raced out of reach with a Mason Clark double, Melissa Reid effort and an Anna Taylor own goal, before United’s Morgan Steedman found the net from distance.

Spartans drew 2-2 with Motherwell but are now just four points from danger. All the goals came in the second half, Becky Galbraith heading the hosts in front, Laura Berry turned the game round with two goals including a penalty, only for Dion McMahon to equalise soon afterwards.
