Hearts have confirmed that their friendly with Almería has been abandoned after heated exchanges between players.

Boss Robbie Neilson had taken his side to Spain to prepare for the return of the Scottish Premiership in two weeks time.

As tensions built between the two sides from the get-go, Diario de Almeria claim that Hearts defender Alex Cochrane threw the first punch at Rodrigo Ely, which sparked a mass brawl between the two sides.

When Cochrane and Ely both received red cards for their part in sparking the incident, Neilson took his players off the pitch and the match was abandoned before it had even reached half-time.
