Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim believes he can help his struggling winger Antony gain back his best form.
The Brazilian rose to stardom during his time at Ajax under Erik ten Hag. So when the Dutch boss was appointed as United boss in the summer of 2022, a reunion with his young pupil was one of the first orders of business.
However, neither man has managed to flourish at Old Trafford. But while the head coach’s tenure is already a thing of the past after getting sacked in October, the player is still on the club’s books, so opening a new chapter with the Red Devils remains possible.
Hence, Amorim is hellbent on finding the best version of Antony, the one that delighted the crowds in Amsterdam with mesmerizing displays.

The Portuguese jumped to the winger’s defense following an under-par display in the 3-4 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur in the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup.
“He [Antony] needs more confidence,” argued Amorim via Sky Sports. “If you remember the Antony from Ajax, he lacks the confidence to go to one against one. So he will improve.
“He’s working really hard and trying, he’s playing more inside than outside, especially in this game, and you just have to do that to work really hard and I will help him to be a better player.”
The Premier League giants had splashed £85 million for the player’s services just over two years ago, but the Brazil international has yet to justify this whooping figure.
Antony has at times been ridiculed for his flamboyant style of play and his tendency to over-dribble while falling short in terms of efficacity. And with Amad Diallo surging as one of the United’s best players at the moment, securing regular playing time has become a daunting mission for the 24-year-old winger.
