The Telegraph report that Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes was the victim of an attempted robbery back in August.

Abderaham Muse and two accomplices reportedly attempted to steal the player’s car, and Muse can also be seen lunging at Gabriel with a baseball bat.

Gabriel responded by jabbing the attacker in the face, and managed to fight off the thief without sustaining any injuries.

Muse has since been jailed for five years over robbery and possession of an offensive weapon, though his accomplices remain at large.

Mikel Arteta discussed the incident in his press conference ahead of Arsenal’s trip to Manchester United.

“Obviously it is not a nice thing to go through when you have family involved and they are trying to access your house,” Arteta said.

“Gabi showed a lot of character, you see the reaction he had straight away. Credit to the boy. After that he was fine.

“Obviously he was shocked, there were a few things he wanted to change in his life to try to prevent those things happening and the club gave him all the support that was needed to try to forget about the situation, learn from it, and move on.”

It certainly seems as if Gabriel has been able to put the incident behind him and move on, as he’s been excellent for Arsenal this season.

The defender has arguably been one of the players of Arsenal’s campaign so far, and he’s a nailed-on starter in the Premier League side right now.
