A once-iconic member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid has revealed that, some years ago, he urged the club to keep track of a soon-to-be-former member of the attacking ranks at arch rivals Atlético Madrid.
The player in question? João Félix.
Frontman Félix has of course seen his name dominate the headlines across the continent once more over the course of the last couple of days.
This comes as the 24-year-old prepares for his latest venture, ahead of taking his talents back to the Premier League to join Chelsea on a permanent basis.
This marks just the latest stop across what has been a largely underwhelming career on Félix’s part, with his big-money move to Atlético Madrid back in the summer of 2019 having just never quite worked out.
As alluded to above, though, had an ex-member of the playing setup on the other half of the Madrid divide had his way, things could have proven altogether different for the Portuguese international…
Speaking during an appearance on El Chiringuito TV this week, Guti opened up on his admiration for Félix.
Looking back to his first impression of the gifted forward during his days as a youth player with Benfica, midfielder Guti revealed that he went as far as to touch base with the brass at the Santiago Bernabéu, to urge them to keep track of Félix with a view to a future move for his signature:
“I told Real Madrid to follow Joao Felix in 2017. He was ridiculous in the Youth League, he was destroying everyone.”
