We’re going to do ratings for this latest Clement Rangers debacle, and we can’t promise it’ll be too pretty.

Hold onto your hats…

Butland:

Did very little up until an absolutely horrific final 10 minutes when beaten by two low shots (neither of which were mega-powerful) before trying to score a borderline OG off Robin Pröpper. 2

Tavernier:

Sluggish, overweight, and ‘disappointing’, the skipper is starting to really embarrass himself. Never been accountable for his selection, plays by default. He was abysmal. 2

Souttar:

One of the few who can hold his head genuinely high, Souttar pulled of a lot of massive blocks and his positioning was great, and while he was a little slow to get going, he stepped up so much after the red card. He was Rangers’ top player. 8

Pröpper:

This was his first-ever European match at this level and it showed – he struggled badly most of the night and was absolutely sleeping at Butland’s clearance. Nearly his second OG in two matches. 3

Ridvan:

Another disaster because, guess what – Clement didn’t fix his tactics and left the wee man exposed again – once more Kyiv got a lot of joy by overwhelming Ridvan, and his misery was complete when he was taken off on a stretcher. Horror night for the lad. 2

Barron:

This is the worst he’s played. He still looked hungry but he was beaten a few times and wasn’t as involved as he’s been recently. This was a good dose of reality for him which is healthy for his development. 5

Diomande:

Honestly, he actually stepped up from his recent insipid displays and grafted a lot at the back. Some nice touches too. He was playing a weird position, central midfield and very isolated from Barron a lot of the time, before being shunted out left. He faded from the game at that point. 6

Jefte:

A stinker. While initially a couple of decent crosses, he drifted into fouling territory, and was no longer the surprise winger package he was in Poland. He was absolutely terrible well before he was sent off, and while he won’t thank Clement for that poor call, it summed up his night. 1

McCausland:

Lethargic, slow and weak, McCausland continues to stagnate at ‘development’ level and has never become a convincing senior player. He did earn a corner or two, but he can’t hurt players. He didn’t buck this trend this evening even if he made one or two decent runs. Miles below the more impressive display he showed in the first leg. 4

Lawrence:

This was literally horrible. He touched the ball barely a handful of times in the whole match, completely anonymous, slowing the play down when he did have it, before jumping out of the way Goldson-style to let Kyiv’s shot through. He’s dreadful, and needs dropped, even though we have no one else. Sort of. 0

Dessers:

He was ponderous on the ball and wasted a number of chances where he could have done a lot better with more polish. Didn’t offer the grafting he usually does, and spent a lot of time remonstrating with the ref and his team mates. 2

Subs:

Cerny:

Was a big threat, the only one we had. Worked hard to make chances, but was surrounded by losers. 6

Sterling:

The poor sod. Put back on in Clement’s favourite nonsense of LW. A bad sub and Sterling was as usual not able to shine out of position. 2

Ben Davies:

Rangers collapsed when he came on – 77 minutes, and hey presto, another horrible managerial call hurt the team. Says a lot that we were fine in defence till Davies appeared out of position at LB. Then we concede shots and goals. Coincidence? 0

Matondo:

He’s been a failed signing unfortunately, paid way too much for too little return. 2

Manager:

Got yet another team wrong, as he always does – why McCausland started over Cerny we don’t know, Clement blamed Cerny’s fitness on that one, but he keeps persisting with Tavernier and Lawrence. His system again exposed Ridvan on the left and once again he didn’t fix it. Then his horrendous call to leave Jefte on while booked and fouling all over the place. Diabolical subs, poor all-round management, was this Philippe Clement’s worst match as Rangers manager? Probably, yes. 0
