‘He wants…’: Romano reveals ‘important’ request United target has made, talks will be held this week

Manchester United have been given a free run at signing Bryan Mbeumo if they can reach an agreement with both him and Brentford.

It was revealed earlier this week by transfer expert David Ornstein that the Bees talisman had given priority to United over the likes of Arsenal, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur, all of whom will be playing Champions League football next season.

Yet, as was the case with Matheus Cunha, Mbeumo’s sheer desire to represent the 20-time champions and ply his trade at Old Trafford overshadowed the prospect of playing in Europe. As such, talks will be held this week to see what kind of deal the clubs can negotiate.

Amidst expectations the 25-year-old becomes INEOS’ second acquisition of the summer, it’s been claimed by The Times that he is demanding a wage of around £250,000 — a direct £200,000 increase on what he currently earns in West London.

Such a contract would instantly see Mbeumo join the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Luke Shaw, Mason Mount and Harry Maguire among the side’s highest earners; Casemiro tops the list on a rumoured £300,000 per week.

It remains to be seen if United will green-light the proposed salary, given they risk him moving to a direct rival otherwise.

Fabrizio Romano: Mbeumo has outlined his stance to United chiefs

Fabrizio Romano has assured that the situation is nothing out of the ordinary, though, so fans needn’t stress just yet.

“For sure, he (Mbeumo) wants an important salary but nothing different compared to other players, like Cunha and more. It’s normal. When you go to this sort of club, you always request an important salary,” said Romano in his GiveMeSport newsletter.

The forward is on the back of a career-best campaign in 2024/2025, during which he recorded a hugely impressive 20 goals and eight assists in 38 appearances. He also started every single game of the term, making him a more than ideal coup for any side looking to compete next campaign.
