Mauricio Pochettino believes there are a number of areas where Cole Palmer can improve despite his superb season.

Palmer has been Chelsea’s standout performer this season following his summer move from Manchester City and has registered an impressive 32 goal contributions in 37 appearances across all competitions.

What makes this feat more impressive is this is the first season of regular first team football for the 21 year old who has shown he is more than up to the task.

Without Palmer’s contributions this season it isn’t worth thinking about where Chelsea might be, but it’s very likely the Blues would be further down the table and not in the semi final of the FA Cup.

Despite being Chelsea’s go to man Pochettino believes there are still several areas where the England international needs to improve.

The Argentine is keen for Palmer to work on his consistency amongst other aspects.

Speaking on Stadium Astro the 52 year old said: “I think when he arrived he adapted very well, very quick to Chelsea. The challenge is to help him to be always with his feet on the grass and try to realise the thing that still needs to improve.

“He needs to improve in many things. For example, in the capacity to be more consistent and tactical things, to learn and to play not only in one position and doing always the same movement.

“He needs to learn the capacity to use different possibility to add in his game to make the possibility for him to perform better and better and better because he’s still young.

“Yes, we are in that moment where we need to support him, but at the same time we need to create in him the necessity that every day to try to be better and better and better.”

At just 21 there is plenty of time for Palmer to improve those aspects of his game and develop into an even better player than he currently is.

Palmer will likely be key to Chelsea’s hopes of beating Everton tonight at Stamford Bridge in a game the Blues need to win to keep their Europa League qualification hopes alive.
