Gary Neville believes Paul Pogba holds the key to Manchester United Premier League charge

According to Sky Sports, Gary Neville believes Paul Pogba could be the difference maker as Manchester United challenge for the Premier League title.

The Red Devils are currently top with a two-point advantage over Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s side have a game in hand and could go top if they win that.

With Leicester City and Liverpool also within touching distance, United have a slender grasp at the summit for now.

“I think Manchester United’s chances of winning this league are slim – Liverpool and Man City are still the best two teams in this league.”

Neville believes Pogba’s form in the coming months could determine where United eventually end up. He was the difference-maker against Burnley last week and almost did the same yesterday at Anfield.

‘The slim chance they have to win this league will depend on something like Paul Pogba delivering a cameo of two or three months of brilliance, which he is capable of.”

A confident player who is a world-beater on his day, Neville believes Pogba has the arrogance that could make the difference on the field.

“Thinking you’re the best is a big thing when you’re looking to win.”

Neville also believes Pogba was placed in a tough situation at Anfield. Starting on the right wing, the Frenchman was unable to influence proceedings as expected.

The Frenchman’s contract expires in 2022 and he is expected to leave this summer. Leading us to a 21st league title would be an apt way to leave on a high.

Yesterday night’s trip to Anfield was a perfect occasion for United to make a point. However, we chose to take a safety-first approach against a Liverpool side that had no specialist centre-back on the pitch.

While the draw is an upgrade over our loss in the corresponding fixture, the fact that we did not take advantage of an obvious weakness is frustrating.

Despite Liverpool’s dominance, United had the better chances on the night. Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford too had efforts from close in, only for Alisson Becker to deny him.
