Currently sidelined with an injury picked up earlier in the month, Sunderland striker Ross Stewart had enjoyed an excellent start to the Championship campaign.

The 26-year-old netted five times in the opening seven games of the campaign, chipping in with a further three assists.

When he initially picked up his injury, Tony Mowbray indicated that the Black Cats’ talisman could be missing for up to eight weeks.

Seeing interest surface for him during the summer transfer window, journalist Keith Downie has revealed that a number of clubs are currently looking at the Scotsman, whilst in conversation with Football League World.

“I think the biggest challenge they’re going to have this season is holding on to him, because he has a number of clubs already looking at him and he’s just getting better and better,” Downie said.

The verdict

Stewart has adapted to life in the Championship seamlessly and has formed an excellent partnership with Ellis Simms when the pair have been deployed up top together.

A physical presence, and a player with evident ability with the ball at his feet, the 26-year-old has every chance of enjoying a mightily productive campaign as the season progresses.

It will be interesting to see how his time on the sidelines has affected him, but ultimately, he can quickly regain confidence playing in this current Sunderland team.

Sunderland is an excellent destination to be a striker when considering the quality of service forwards are provided with there.
