"He doesn’t actually need to do it" - Ian Wright on Darwin Nunez's physicality | OneFootball

Pundit Ian Wright believes that new-boy Darwin Nunez possesses the physical attributes required to succeed in the Premier League.

Last Monday night at Anfield, Crystal Palace defender Joachim Andersen gave the Reds striker a tough time.

However, Wright believes that Nunez won't be bullied on a consistent basis in the Premier League

"I was reading a couple of comments that said he needs to bulk up, he needs to get in the gym. He doesn’t actually need to do it," he told the Liverpool Echo, as quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account.

"Of course he’ll need to get a bit more physical in respects of backing in and challenges because like we’ve seen, he’s great in the air, he’s got great pace.

"I thought his link-up play last night (against Crystal Palace), there were opportunities for (Andy) Robertson to pass into him and people to pass into him in that lane where you need him to make the move, link the play. It was one of those games for him where you could see the frustration building.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

We completely agree with Wright's take. Nunez is quite a big boy. Therefore, we are confident that he will adapt to the physical nature of the Premier League.

Nunez was playing in Portugal prior to signing for the Reds. He wouldn't be used to playing against physical centre-backs.

But, Nunez has still had a reasonable start to his Liverpool career. The Uruguay international has scored two goals and registered one assist in three appearances for the club's first-team.

So, Nunez does deserve a bit of credit. Hopefully he can secure a few Premier League Golden Boots in the years to come.
