Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards has given his opinion on Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk.

Alan Shearer, Gary Lineker and Richards have been discussing the best centre-backs to grace the Premier League.

Richards believes that Van Dijk could be the greatest centre-back to play in the Premier League.

Richards added that Van Dijk is a player that can “do everything”.

“He could be the greatest ever,” Richards told the BBC Match of the Day: Top 10 podcast.

“Maybe it’s getting a bit late now in terms of age and he’s had his injury but he had an instant impact.

“There’s no question marks over him, he can do everything. I can’t believe when he was at Celtic that Manchester City didn’t take a little punt on him.”

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

It is difficult to disagree with Richards. Back in September 2019, Van Dijk was valued at €100 million. The aforementioned figure highlights how good the Dutchman is when he is at his best.

There is no obvious flaw in Van Dijk’s game. Sure, Van Dijk has played poorly at times for Liverpool.

But, the 29-year-old has had more good games than bad during his time at Anfield, which is why he receives plenty of praise from those who watch football.

Van Dijk is contracted until the summer 0f 2023. Therefore, the Liverpool supporters will be able watch the Dutchman play at Anfield for at least a couple more years.
