West Bromwich Albion manager Valerien Ismael said his side “wanted the three points” and “wanted the breakthrough” after the goalless draw with Nottingham Forest on Friday evening, which has caused a stir among many Baggies fans.

Albion have now won just once in their last six games and only scored twice during that period, which has seen them lose significant ground on the top two.

Ismael’s side were in the ascendancy for much of last night’s game but Jayson Molumby’s red card after 70 minutes forced them onto the backfoot.

Both sides had chances in a frantic final 20 minutes but the game ended 0-0, with the hosts leaving the pitch to boos at The Hawthorns.

Ismael provided his assessment on the performance and the result.

“It’s a big frustration again,” said the Baggies boss. “We wanted the three points. We wanted the breakthrough.

“We had a few big chances to score. Chances fell to Darnell Furlong, Grady Diangana, Karlan Grant and Jordan Hugill at the end when we were down to ten.

“Up until the red card we were in control of the game and we didn’t concede any chances to Forest.

“We punished ourselves again.”

He added: “The good thing now is we have a week to work with the guys to get their confidence back in training.

“We will build the players up again. Yes, we are disappointed and we are frustrated, but from tomorrow, we get back to work and we go again.”

After leading Barnsley to the play-offs last season, Ismael took charge at Albion in the summer and enjoyed a strong start to life at the club but things have become more difficult in recent months.

His direct, high-tempo style of football does not always make easy watching and when the results aren’t there it can be difficult to justify for a squad with all that talent.

Unrest appears to be brewing among Baggies fans, with many taking to Twitter to voice their thoughts on his post-match comments…
