Ian Wright thinks misfiring Chelsea star Timo Werner can flourish next season

According to Metro, Ian Wright believes Chelsea new boy Timo Werner will come good next season. Former Arsenal striker Wright was of the opinion that Werner can put behind his first season struggles and flourish next season.

Timo Werner might have scored one of the most important goals for Chelsea this season when he headed home into an empty net. That is his only goal from open play in the Champions League this season so far. Despite only joining the club this season, he has failed to match his previously high standards.

It has been an all too familiar sight of Werner missing chance after chance. The German striker missed another glorious opportunity to get an important away goal against Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final. Prior to this, Werner squandered an easy chance in the West Ham game.

However, with each passing game, Werner looks in much better shape and Ian Wright feels that the German will turn around his form and start hitting the goals soon.

‘Next season might be different for him. We saw at Leipzig, he scored 29 goals in one season, so he can do it and go on that kind of run. The chances he’s been missing, he should be taking those with the calibre of striker he is. But he’s still trying to do the right things. We’ve seen it before with strikers just missing chances and the confidence goes. You have to still get into the right positions and he is.

It is understandable that Werner is struggling given he is playing in a whole different league with new players. There was also a managerial change that would have had some effect. However, Werner is slowly showing signs that he has it in him to play as a forward for Chelsea beyond this season.
