Barcelona starlet Fermín López has dedicated the club’s downing of Atlético Madrid on Sunday evening to teammate João Cancelo.

As much, of course, comes fresh off what marked a stellar night’s work on Barca’s part.

After sending Napoli packing from the Champions League in midweek, Xavi’s troops tonight turned their attentions back towards matters on the domestic front, in a La Liga showdown with the aforementioned Atlético.

The Blaugrana headed into proceedings in the knowledge that an eventual triumph would see them enter the international break having climbed clear of Girona into 2nd in the Spanish top-flight table.

And, when all was said and done in Spain’s capital, this is precisely what they managed.

Owing to goals on the part of all of João Félix, Robert Lewandowski and Fermín López, Barca emerged on the right side of a dominant 3-0 scoreline.

Speaking to the media post-match at the Metropolitano, the aforementioned Fermín, in turn, was drawn on the key elements behind his side’s wonderful display, en route to putting Atléti to the sword.

As alluded to above, however, the midfielder was keen to turn attentions away from those to have taken to the pitch for Barcelona on Sunday, and towards one of those to have missed out.

After João Cancelo was absent from Xavi’s travelling squad in Madrid, Fermín confirmed that the Portuguese is going through ‘a hard time’, dedicating the victory to him as a result:

“I want to dedicate this victory to Joao Cancelo, who is having a hard time and deserves it.”
