In perhaps the most peculiar story of the day so far across the slate of games in Europe, the services of a fan from the stands were needed in Wolfsburg’s Bundesliga clash with Köln Saturday afternoon.
After one of the linesman got hurt in the first half, the game’s fourth official had to step to take their place, but left another vacancy on the touchline.
With nobody to replace the fourth official, the referee was forced to make the decision to find an amateur official in the stands and call them down to join the fray!
As it turns out, the fan, turned Bundesliga official, is also an amateur goalkeeper in the Landesliga Braunschweig, German football’s sixth division.
It’s not very often that you end up down on the pitch as an official after punching your ticket and taking your seat at a Bundesliga game!
