Have Rangers REALLY suffered the loss of Tom Lawrence?

If there’s been one ‘gets better in his absence’ player for Rangers the past few weeks it’s been Wales’ Tom Lawrence.

An impressive, if not spectacular start to his career at Ibrox was curtailed through an untimely injury just as he was starting to hold down the right side of attack, and Rangers have been utterly terrible since that fixture (Ross County).

Now, there’s a massive case to say the massive fixtures were just so big that even Lawrence’s presence might not have changed them, but fans are putting 2+2 together to get a 4 they believe is influenced by the Welsh attacker’s absence.

In fairness, the case may not be a complete dud.

The only bad result Tom Lawrence played in this season was our loss in Belgium, and he didn’t actually start that one, arriving on the scene when it was far too late.

But otherwise? Of every match Lawrence has significantly played in, Rangers have won all bar two this season. The one big blot that he started but the side just didn’t show up for was Hibs away, and he at least scored a scorcher there.

So do Rangers miss him?

It’s hard to put a number on it, because he’s only just joined, but our run of horrible results and performances mostly coincided with losing him, and the only way we can measure his absence is by seeing if things improve on his return.

We cannot know if his loss impacted our performances and results, not yet – but when he’s back fit, said to be, with a bit of luck after this break, if the displays pick up, there may be a case for it.
