Aston Villa have announced Craig Shakespeare’s arrival as Dean Smith’s assistant coach.

Shakespeare won the Premier League as Claudio Ranieri’s assistant at Leicester before taking over from the Italian as the Foxes’ head coach for eight months in 2017.

He spent part of the 2019/20 season on Nigel Pearson’s staff at Watford.

“I was keen to add some additional Premier League know-how onto my coaching team and Craig certainly has that in abundance,” Smith said. “He’s a vastly experienced coach who will add another dimension to our team.”

Villa have made no comment on John Terry, who has been Dean Smith’s assistant for the past two seasons.

The former Chelsea and England captain has been linked with the managerial posts at Bournemouth and Bristol City.
