Danny Murphy urges Newcastle to sign Manchester United ace Edinson Cavani on loan in January

As quoted by The Daily Mail (h/t The Shields Gazette), former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has urged Newcastle United to seek a loan deal for top strikers including Manchester United ace, Edinson Cavani, in the January transfer window.

Newcastle’s new Saudi Arabia-based owners are believed to be the richest club owners in world football, as per The Sun. The club was reeling under Mike Ashley’s ownership and have started this off in horrendous form.

But the club seems to have turned a new corner in their history and fans are now hopeful of a strong rebuild in order for them to challenge for European spots. Currently, the Magpies have a chance of being relegated after an unimpressive summer window.

If the same trend continues in January, the Steve Bruce-led Magpies could well find themselves in the Championship. But the club is believed to want to strengthen in January and Murphy has suggested an approach they could follow in the short term.

Cavani to Newcastle?

According to the former Premier League midfielder, Newcastle should look to bring in high-profile strikers on loan in the winter- players who would probably not want to make a long-term commitment to the Toons.

“They have the money to pay high wages so why not aim big in the loan market. Try to get Edinson Cavani in from Manchester United because he isn’t going to play at Old Trafford, or Alexandre Lacazette who is in the final year of his contract at Arsenal.

Murphy is somewhat correct in his assessment that a few top-class players may not want to commit their long-term future at Newcastle just yet. But for some Man United fans, they would want to hold on to the Uruguayan striker for as long as they can.

“HAVE A CHEEKY GO FOR TIMO WERNER AT CHELSEA. That type of player isn’t going to take the risk of joining permanently in case of relegation.”

United may have Cristiano Ronaldo this season but Cavani showed his worth in the last campaign. He is a potent option to bring off the bench and the club should look to keep him until his expires next summer.
