Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhüttl  admitted that it ‘wasn’t easy’ to let academy graduate Yan Valery leave for his native France.

The 23-year-old moved to the English South coast from the Rennes youth sector back in 2015 and left for Ligue 1 side Angers on deadline day before the start of this season.

“You can see that does something to a young person.

“I think for him to go back to France was a very big chance and we didn’t let him down there and tried to help him and support him, the same we did with [Oriol] Romeu.

“A guy who is always respectful and working hard for this club gets all the support he needs to get from us.”

Valery has already made three top-flight appearances for his new side since leaving Southampton.
