Mickel Miller has been labelled "a pleasant surprise" after making an impressive start to life at Huddersfield Town following his summer switch from Plymouth Argyle.

The wing-back has been a regular starter for Michael Duff's side in League One this season, registering two assists in the Terriers' 3-1 win over Bristol Rovers earlier this month, and impressing the John Smith's Stadium faithful with his performances.

Miller rejected a new deal with Plymouth in the summer, making the switch to Huddersfield on a free transfer, and on early evidence it looks like very shrewd business for the Terriers.

Huddersfield have got their season back on track in recent weeks after a shaky period where results weren't going their way, and Miller has improved and become a more influential player as the campaign has progressed.

We asked our Huddersfield Town fan pundit, Graeme Rayner, which player has taken him by surprise this season, and it's clear that summer arrival Miller has made an impressive early impression at the John Smith's Stadium.

Speaking to Football League World, Graeme said: "Mickel Miller would be the player that has surprised me in terms of performance levels because I didn’t know much about him.

"Obviously, I’d heard relatively positive things, but in the first few weeks of the season with our two new wing-backs, Lasse Sorensen looked to be head and shoulders above him, but actually, now he’s found his feet, he’s been consistently one of our best performers, and as of late, all of our good attacking play happens down his flank.

“He puts in good balls, good crosses, he defends pretty well too, which is a big problem we’ve had with our wing-backs in the past. We’ve had players who can defend but can’t attack or who can attack but can’t defend, but he seems to be able to do both.

“Mickel Miller has been a pleasant surprise and long may that continue.”

Mickel Miller looks like an excellent acquisition for Huddersfield Town

The fact that Championship side Plymouth offered him a new deal and wanted him to stay shows that he's clearly well thought of, and his signing was a coup for a League One club.

Having played in the Championship and Scottish Premiership, Miller is vastly experienced, and has previous experience of winning promotion from League One with Plymouth.

The top end of League One looks hugely competitive and there are effectively only two promotion places up for grabs with Birmingham City looking set to win the league, but the Terriers will be set on escaping League One at the first attempt, and Miller will be a hugely important figure for them this season.

It took a couple of weeks for the 28-year-old to find his feet at the John Smith's Stadium, but now he has, he looks a very important player, and the club's decision to sign him in the summer has paid dividends.
