Has Stevie lost patience with Ibrox January signing?

One name was noticeably absent again as the teamsheet was revealed before 11am, and that was that despite having absolutely no defenders available aside Jack Simpson, the Bournemouth signing STILL didn’t make the bench.

Having been completely axed from the UEL squad, it may just be dawning on our manager what a truly poor signing this was, that we elected to have just Calvin Bassey on the bench as defensive cover rather than the struggling Simpson.

Of course, it may have been an injury, but it probably wasn’t. He also hasn’t featured in the entire matchday squad since he started v Motherwell in mid-September and there is no report whatsoever that he isn’t fit. He’s been taking part in training as far as we know.

No, Simpson’s lack of presence over the past month probably tells us our manager deeply regrets sending Niko Katic out on loan, not because he absolutely loves the Croat and wants him back, but because Simpson is one of the least convincing defenders to ply his trade at Ibrox in many, many years.

Thankfully Leon Balogun soldiered through the 90 minutes without any major kickback, and no defensive subs were needed, but if the past few weeks are anything to go by, Simpson will only get drafted in now in case of absolute emergency.

He is, we’re sure, a nice bloke, but he’s painfully out of his depth at Ibrox.

Wonder what on earth inspired that signing?

Well, we all get them wrong now and then…
