We take a look at how Kamara has got on in France, since his move away from Elland Road.

Glen Kamara looked to be a shrewd addition when he made the move to Leeds United from Rangers.

At the time, the Whites were in need of more midfield depth, with Archie Gray having to step into the first 11 after the departures of Tyler Adams, Marc Roca and former loanee Weston McKennie.

Both Ilia Gruv and Kamara completed moves to Elland Road on August 31st last year - and looked set to be part of an exciting season at Elland Road.

The pair featured heavily during the 2023/24 campaign, with Kamara registering 42 appearances in all competitions and recording four assists in the process.

The Finland international's contributions from midfield helped the West Yorkshire side to secure a top-six finish - and having seen Daniel Farke's side secure their place in the play-off final after a win against Norwich City - he would have been hopeful of a memorable day at Wembley.

Unfortunately for him, Southampton came out on top in the English capital, and that proved to be a pivotal moment for Leeds, who lost quite a few key first-teamers during the most recent summer window.

Gray was the first key man to move on from Elland Road - and Kamara followed him through the exit door not too long after.

With the Whites staying down in the Championship, they needed to balance the books.

The sales of Gray, Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter weren't a huge shock, considering all could generate a decent amount of revenue from their sales.

But Kamara also departed, with Stade Rennais sorting out a deal to bring him to Ligue 1, a deal that was believed to be less than €10m.

Joe Rothwell and Ao Tanaka may be good players to have in his place, but it's a shame he moved on from Elland Road not long after he first arrived in West Yorkshire.

How Glen Kamara has got on at Rennes so far

Apart from his exclusion from the matchday squad against Lens, Kamara has been heavily involved in league action for the French top-tier team since his arrival.

Starting in four of his six league appearances for the club, he has established himself as an important part of Julien Stephan's side and grabbed an assist against Monaco last weekend, recovering the ball and setting up Ludovic Blas, who scored a screamer.

Unfortunately, that goal was unable to prevent Rennes' loss, but it was still a good contribution from Kamara, who started in that game and looks at home in the top flight of French football.

Early indications suggest that he may not start every league game, but he is a regular part of his current side's matchday squads.

At 28 and arguably in the peak years of his career, regular game time is what he will want and he's currently getting it at his new side.

You can't help but feel he should have stayed at Leeds an extra year or two if possible, to see whether the Whites can get back to the Premier League.

However, Kamara is currently part of a very talented squad that also contains Jordan James, who moved from Birmingham City during the summer window and looks set to be a real asset in the future.

Bringing in quite a few talented players during the summer, including James, Jota and Albert Gronbaek, Rennes will be hoping to improve on their current league position of 12th, and they have the potential to push on and be a real success at the top level.

Kamara will be hoping to be a key part of their potential success.
