Has De Rossi’s Impact on Roma Been a Surprise?

Article image:Has De Rossi’s Impact on Roma Been a Surprise?

Roma manager Daniele De Rossi is best known for being one of the best players in history for his hometown club, Roma. Born in 1983, the midfielder captured two Coppa Italia titles and a Supercoppa Italiana. Internationally, he won the pinnacle trophy in football, the 2006 FIFA World Cup with Italy.

He spent a total of 18 years at Roma, making over 459 appearances and scoring 43 goals. And over 117 appearances and 21 goals for his country. Although it is not his history as a player that is going to be under the spotlight today, it is rather his impact as manager at Roma after he took over from Jose Mourinho in January of this year.

Has he hit the ground running?

Following his takeover from Mourinho, De Rossi immediately steadied the ship with much-needed wins over the likes of Hellas Verona and Salernitana—quickly winning over the support of fans.

After overhauling the team’s playing style, De Rossi guided Roma’s midseason turnaround, amassing a record of 12W, 3D, and 3L across all competitions. He led the capital club into the Europa semi-finals and they’re still in a strong position to feature in the Champions League next season.

Earlier this month, the club’s upper management rewarded De Rossi when they announced their decision to remove the “interim” title and appoint him the team’s permanent, long-term manager. His impressive start, in conjunction with his loyalty to the club, has proven a recipe for success thus far.

Of course, he is a huge hit among the fans, and no wonder. There are rarely any players now that can be considered ‘one club’ players. Those who have a deep and unwavering loyalty to their club. So De Rossi was one of the last of a dying breed, unfortunately, so it’s no surprise his loyalty has been recognised and rewarded by both the club and fans.

There is no doubt at all that the former club legend has hit the ground running, and it’ll be interesting to see how the season ultimately ends. In fact, there are plenty of bitcoin betting sites that offer odds on whether Roma will finish in the top five and subsequently end their six-year Champions League drought.

With several crucial games still left on their schedule, Roma are surely going to be tested over the final six weeks of the season.

In Summary

Going back to the initial question—you can hardly call it a surprise De Rossi currently taking Roma to the next level.

His influence on the club’s performance as a player has now been personified in his performance as a manager, and there’s plenty of reason for optimism and excitement with De Rossi at the helm of Roma.
