Fabio Carvalho enjoyed an outstanding season in the Championship with Fulham and is certainly ready for the step up to the Premier League.

The 19-year-old has completed a move to Champions League finalists Liverpool, with his contract running out at Craven Cottage this summer.

It will be interesting to track the youngster’s development after the promise he has shown in 2021/22, and his new team-mate Harvey Elliott was enthused by the signing when he spoke to Thisisanfield.com.

He said: “I’m sure he’ll show you very quickly why Liverpool have signed him.

“He’s a class player and I think he’ll bring that flair to this team, that sort of young power in a way.

“He’s one for the future, definitely.

“To be able to link up and reunite with him, and to hopefully play with him on the same pitch like the old days, it’ll be great.

“He has the work rate, he has the ability, the skill, shooting, dribbling.

“You name it, he has it.

“He’ll be a great asset to the team.”

The attacking midfielder does seem destined to play at the highest level, and some of his touches and contributions to Fulham’s title win this season demonstrated his ability above the second tier.

Who did Fulham sign Aleksander Mitrovic from?

Newcastle United Anderlecht Partizan Teleoptik

The Reds have an impressive record for improving younger players under Jurgen Klopp in recent years, and even if Carvalho does not break into the first team in the coming years, it feels likely that he will leave Anfield a better player than when he arrived.

The physicality of the second tier did not seem to affect Carvalho too badly, but the step up a level could make it a little tougher for him to settle and have such a big influence on matches.

With Liverpool having deep runs in so many competitions this season, it is likely that they do something similar again next term, which will likely afford regular appearances for the 19-year-old.
