Curle was appointed as interim manager in September and has gone on to improve the side’s fortunes after a disappointing start under Paul Hartley.

The team has managed to pick up its first wins of the season under Curle, whilst setting up an FA Cup third-round tie against Championship side Stoke City after overcoming Solihull Moors and Harrogate Town in previous rounds.

The club are still rooted to the bottom of League Two, but in appointing Curle, they’ve given him the opportunity to guide the club out of the bottom two.

Curle has signed a deal until the end of the 23/24 season, with club chairman Raj Singh telling the club website: “We’ve been talking to Keith in recent weeks and we are delighted to formally get things tied down.

“It will give us continuity and a chance to properly plan and invest into the January window, with both the immediate task in hand this season but also with one eye looking ahead to next season.”

Curle has done a steady job with Hartlepool so far and has lost just two games in their last six in all competitions as he looks to build momentum before the new year.

The FA Cup win last weekend against Harrogate Town should hopefully give the side the confidence needed ahead of their encounter with Stockport County on Saturday afternoon.

Speaking of his appointment, Curle told club media: “I am delighted we have agreed a deal. We have a good foundation here to build something special. I want to create a good working environment where everyone is welcome and works hard for this football club.”

The club are still bottom of League Two, but find themselves just two points off safety after failing to win a game until early October.

The Verdict

Curle is a safe bet as an appointment for any League Two side.

He’s proven to be a success in the fourth tier having overseen positive spells with Carlisle United and Northampton Town. Whether their poor start to the season may have given them too much to do remains to be seen, but giving Curle the chance to build at the club will stand them in good stead.

He’s a talented manager at League Two with a clear playing philosophy which will prove to be beneficial for a side fighting against relegation.
