Hartlepool United acquire experienced striker following Doncaster Rovers exit
Football League World
Hartlepool United have completed the signing of Omar Bogle on a two-and-a-half year deal, after his contract with Doncaster Rovers was terminated by mutual consent.
The forward had fallen out of favour prior to his departure amid a poor run of form, netting only once in 11 matches for Doncaster this term.
Bogle joined the South Yorkshire outfit last January from Charlton Athletic, making 28 appearances in total and scoring three goals.
Previously, the 28-year-old had played in the Championship with Wigan Athletic, Cardiff City and Birmingham City, before a brief loan stint in the Eredivisie with ADO Den Haag.
It was at Grimsby Town where Bogle really made a name for himself, though, rising to prominence with 19 goals across the first half of the 2016-17 League Two campaign.
“He has pedigree and has performed and scored in this league and the leagues above which was key for us.”
Bogle becomes Hartlepool’s fourth acquisition of the January window following the signings of Isaac Fletcher, Jake Hull and Marcus Carver.
In what is surely a last chance saloon for Bogle to cement his worth as a seasoned Football League player, he will be hoping to rekindle his Grimsby form as he returns to the fourth tier for the first time since that sensational spell.
Indeed, there is little shortage of ability, with the Englishman showing real promise for Cardiff and Portsmouth in fits and starts, though inconsistency and concerns over his application have often come into play.
But if Bogle can get his head down and show the performances he is capable of, there is no reason why he can not be a roaring success at Victoria Park.
