Harry Maguire waited in the Wembley tunnel for two hours to speak to manager Gareth Southgate following another disastrous performance in England's 3-3 Nations League draw with Germany.

It is the latest in a series of lows for the 29-year-old, with his place in future England squads now looking in jeopardy despite excellent performances at the 2018 World Cup and Euro 2020.

With Southgate unlikely to meet with any of his players face-to-face again before the in November, the Telegraph writes that Maguire waited for two hours in the Wembley tunnel until Southgate had completed his media duties after the game in order to discuss what went wrong.

Less than two months into the season, it already looks like another campaign to forget for Maguire, with the Manchester United captain losing his place in the starting eleven after a pair of woeful performances against Brighton and Brentford.

With manager Erik ten Hag opting for a defensive pairing of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez in the club's subsequent fixtures, it looks like a long way back into the first team for the world's most expensive defender.

Despite Maguire's misfortunes, he remains likely to be included in Southgate's World Cup squad next month, with his previous heroics for England still fresh in the manager's mind.
