Harry Maguire has stated that he will fight for his place in the Manchester United first-team and he has received messages of well done from Erik ten Hag.

In a revealing interview with The TimesHenry Winter, Maguire spoke about a lot of things and that included his form at United and the upcoming game against Les Bleus.

He said: “I will fight for my place back. I was in the Euros team of the tournament so I know what I’m capable of. I’ve not hid away from the last year, it’s been difficult, but I always had great belief in myself that I’d find my form.”

On representing England, the defender said: “I’m just super proud every time I sing that anthem. It’s one of the proudest moments of my life. You are focused, nervous and excited. You’ve butterflies but I’ll be ready to go. It’s a huge game. A quarter-final against France, the world champions, some people say maybe the favourites to win the competition. But these are the games we play for. These are the games growing up that you want to be involved in. They are huge pressure games but this is the pressure you want. This is where we need to deliver. I feel good mentally, I feel good physically, I feel fresh.”

He also spoke about the French national team and the talent at their disposal, stating: “Mbappé’s a wonderful player, had an amazing tournament, he’s one of the best in the world but they also have so many different talents. [Olivier] Giroud is a top goalscorer, [Ousmane] Dembélé is playing really well on the other wing, and you’ve got [Antoine] Griezmann too.

“But we have good defenders. A lot of the English defenders get a lot of scrutiny but we come into these big tournaments and our defensive record is always good. Three clean sheets on the bounce, so we have got to take great belief in what we have done as a defence, as a unit, as a midfield in front of us, and the work-rate that the lads are pressing the ball up the top end of the pitch as well.”
