Harry Maguire has claimed that while England's draw against the USA will help them in ensuring qualification from the World Cup group stage, the Three Lions desperately missed their attacking ruthlessness displayed against Iran.

Gareth Southgate's side were held by the Stars and Stripes, continuing a staggering record of never having beaten the USA in three World Cup meetings.

Maguire, one of England's better players on Friday night, spoke to ITV post-match and though he tried to remain positive, he could not hide his frustration at their woes in the final third.

"It wasn't our best [performance] but in the end I think it's a point, puts us in a strong position in the group, World Cup games are never easy," Maguire said after winning his 50th cap.

"We knew coming into the game they're a good team. We watched a lot of them and they're a good team that play at a good tempo.

"We had to work hard out there. We could have been a bit more clinical.

"We weren't clinical enough, we weren't ruthless enough, we didn't execute the final pass well enough, but we know we have good forwards in this team so we know we'll be alright."

England will qualify for the last 16 of the World Cup should they avoid defeat to Wales on Tuesday.
