Harry Kane is facing a race to prove his fitness in time for Euro 2024 after missing Bayern Munich's last game of the season due to injury.

Kane made the move to Bayern in the summer of 2023 and enjoyed a fine debut season in the Bundesliga, scoring 44 goals in 45 appearances in all competitions despite enduring another trophy-less campaign.

However, the England captain has not featured for his club since being substituted during Bayern's Champions League semi-final defeat to Real Madrid at the beginning of May.

He is currently undergoing specialist treatment after picking up a back injury that kept him off the pitch for Bayern's last Bundesliga fixture of 2023/24, a 4-2 defeat to Hoffenheim which resulted in a third-place finish.

Thomas Tuchel provided an update on the striker's wellbeing ahead of the final fixture against Hoffenheim, confirming he has been unable to train with the squad.

He said: "In Madrid, it was borderline. We tried injections and treatments. The back has completely closed. It has gotten worse and kept breaking out in small, everyday movements. There's no chance he's even training."

However, there is still hope as Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has revealed Kane believes he will be fit for the Euros. The race is now firmly on for Kane as England manager Gareth Southgate prepares to name his provisional squad for Euro 2024 on Tuesday.

Kane is still expected to lead England into the summer tournament, though Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins will provide an in-form alternative for Southgate to consider after contributing 19 goals and 13 assists in the Premier League this season.

Ivan Toney is another central forward hoping to make the cut, while other attacking stars like Phil Foden, Bukayo Saka and Cole Palmer are shoo-ins after sparkling campaigns at club level.
