When it comes to the sweet art of scoring goals, Harry Kane is right up there with the best of the 21st century.
Since making his Tottenham Hotspur debut way back in 2011, the striker has made the net bulge for fun at both domestic and international level.
On Monday evening, Kane drew level with Jimmy Greaves as Spurs’ all-time record scorer.
The 29-year-old bagged the north London side’s only goal in their 1-0 win away at Fulham, which has kept their hopes of finishing in the Premier League top four alive.
At the time of writing, Kane has scored 266 goals for Spurs and a further 53 for England – a combined total of 319.
That’s a mighty impressive total and if he stays injury-free, Kane should comfortably surpass 400 before hanging up his boots.
He could even reached the hallowed ground of 500 goals for club and country.
But while his scoring record is up there with the greats, Kane’s trophy haul certainly isn’t.
He’s yet to lift a single piece of silverware, having tasted defeat in four separate finals (2014/15 League Cup, 2020/21 League Cup, 2018/19 Champions League and Euro 2020).
Kane’s record is made all the more worse by the fact that no other player in the 21st century has scored more goals without having a winner’s medal draped around their neck at least once.
Check out Transfermarkt‘s list featuring the unfortunate top 10…
10. Wahbi Khazri – 107 goals
9. Cristhian Stuani – 113 goals
8. Gylfi Sigurdsson – 116 goals
7. Kevin Volland – 125 goals
6. Luis Muriel – 140 goals
5. Mustapha Hadji – 146 goals
4. Dimitri Payet – 148 goals
3. Vedad Ibisevic – 184 goals
2. Antonio Di Natale – 258 goals
Sadly for Kane, it’s a list he tops by a considerable distance.
But at least the goal scorer extraordinaire doesn’t take the gold medal when it comes to most games played since the turn of the millenium without lifting a trophy.
The recipient of that unwanted accolade is Payet, who suffered the pain of defeat in the final of Euro 2016 with France and the 2017/18 UEFA Europa League with Marseille.
Kane’s chances of ending his long wait for a trophy this season are pretty slim.
Realistically, Spurs stand no chance of winning the Premier League and it’s hard to envisage a world where they make a play for the Champions League.
So it’s down to the FA Cup and Antonio Conte’s side have at least been handed a favourable fourth-round draw away at Championship side Preston North End.
Never say never…
