After a largely disappointing international tour of duty last month, Bayern Munich attacker Leroy Sané is at least back in solid form for his club. The former Manchester City man bagged a brace in his first Bundesliga match back against St. Pauli. Sané also collected two assists in Friday night’s league victory over Augsburg.
Sané’s FCB teammates Joshua Kimmich and Harry Kane offered up words of praise for the 29-year-old afterwards. Among the players Bayern are not expected to extend with this summer, Sané is certainly doing his best to give both his current club and any prospective future clubs something to think about.
Sané has gotten his name on the scoresheet in six of Bayern’s last eight league fixtures, scoring a total of four goals and collecting four assists since February 7. An excellent performance against Augsburg leaves German football watchers eager to see what he does in the Champions League midweek.
“He’s more effective,” said Kane – as quoted by Kicker. ”Leroy is always dangerous, but in the last two or three weeks he has really been consistent. That’s the difference between scoring ten goals in a season and scoring five goals in a season. He’s in good form. You can see his confidence. He wants more. And that’s what we need from him.”
“I’ve had the feeling in the last few weeks that he’s been focusing extremely hard on being reliable,” added Kimmich. “Some say he didn’t play well for the national team. But for me as a teammate, he played two very good games because – for me – he was simply much more reliable than in the past.
“He focuses on his tasks on the pitch,” Kimmich elaborated further. “He knows what we players demand of him and what the coach demands of him. And whether he scores goals or not, he has plenty of helpful skills that he can bring to the table. And I think that by focusing on that and delivering, the goals will come. He’s fun to watch at the moment.”
