Harry Kane and fellow Englishman, Eric Dier, have won their first title in professional football as Bayern Munich were crowned Bundesliga champions on Sunday.
Kane had to watch from the stands on Saturday afternoon as his teammates had the chance to clinch the title should they beat RB Leipzig in Saxony.
Having trailed 2-0 at halftime, Bayern scored twice in 46 seconds before Leroy Sané put the Bavarians ahead with ten minutes to go. However, a 95th-minute equaliser from Leipzig legend Yussuf Poulsen ensured that the champagne would remain on ice for another day at least.
The point did all but secure the title due to Bayern’s far superior goal difference when compared to second-place Bayer Leverkusen.
The draw meant that Xabi Alonso’s B04 would have to win at Champions League hopefuls, Freiburg, on Sunday.
With this in mind, the Bayern squad met in Käfer Restaurant in Munich to watch the game and hopefully celebrate the title on Sunday afternoon.
A dominate and inspired Freiburg side blew Leverkusen out of the water to win convincingly XXX.
The win for Freiburg sparked celebrations in the Munich restaurant as the Bayern players and staff rejoiced at the club’s 33rd Bundesliga title.
Whilst it’s Kane’s and Dier’s first title, it was veteran Thomas Müller’s 13th Bundesliga title with Bayern and his last as he’ll leave the club this summer. Likewise, Dier will also be leaving this summer as a move to Monaco in Ligue 1 looks confirmed.
It’s been a long time coming for both players, who have played in many great squads but never quite got over the line.
