One of the most questioned exits at Club América in recent years was that of centre-back Haret Ortega, who was not in Miguel Herrera’s plans despite performing extremely well when called upon, often in emergency situations.
After joining Toluca on a season-long loan, the 20-year-old has had to wait for his opportunity, not making an appearance until Matchday 13 earlier this month against Cruz Azul.
Now, Ortega could help Toluca sneak into the Liguilla. In the 12 games prior to Ortega’s first start, Toluca only earned 14 points, surrendering 22 goals in the process.
However, since his debut, Toluca have defeated both Cruz Azul and Xolos (six points) while falling 1-0 to Pumas, surrendering just the one goal while Ortega banged one in himself against La Maquina.
It will be interesting to see now whether or not Toluca will try to keep him at the club or whether América will look to integrate him into the first-team.
With Las Águilas, Ortega has made a total of five first-team appearances.
