Italy international centre-back Riccardo Calafiori has taken to social media platform Instagram to announce his delight at finally joining Arsenal following a drawn-out transfer saga.

The 22-year-old officially joined the North London club on Monday from Bologna on a five-year contract for around £42 million, and he has since linked up with his new teammates on their pre-season tour of the United States.

Arsenal’s move for Calafiori stalled for a couple of reasons, and manager Mikel Arteta had hoped it would have been sorted out before his team left for the U.S.

The Italian defender is pleased that the deal has finally gotten over the line, taking to social media to react, and Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee and his AS Roma counterpart Tammy Abraham have reacted in the comment section.

Calafiori was one of the best players at the European Championship, but Arsenal had him on their radar long before the competition, and his performances in Germany only confirmed what they had always known.

The former Bologna star will be looking to hit the ground running in the Premier League next season and is expected to taste action during pre-season.

Arsenal face Liverpool in the early hours of Thursday and Bayer Leverkusen next Wednesday in their remaining games in the US before playing Lyon in the Emirates Cup final on August 11, and Calafiori will be eagerly looking forward to making his unofficial debut.

The Gunners will kick off 2024-25 with their Premier League opener against Wolverhampton Wanderers on August 17, and the Euro 2024 star could be named in the starting XI.

Arsenal have bolstered their defensive ranks and are hoping to add a central midfielder to the squad in the coming days.

They want to go one better next term after losing the title to Manchester City in each of the last two campaigns, and adding Calafiori and one or two more quality signings to the team will help boost their chances.
