The tension was palpable in the Veltins-Arena despite the match being just a friendly.

Recent results have lead to an immense amount of pressure on Germany coach Hansi Flick, and a game against high-level South American opposition can not be taken lightly in the circumstances.

However, it was Colombia who had the better of the chances in the opening 45 minutes, creating a flurry of opportunities on the break without striking pay-dirt.

The visitors were rewarded for their efforts after the break, as Luis Díaz fired Colombia into the lead with a bullet header.

While Germany pushed to equalise, they were stung once again in the final 10 minutes.

After the ball ricocheted off of the hand of Joshua Kimmich inside the Germany box, Juan Cuadrado stepped up to the penalty spot and dispatched to double the Colombia lead and drive the final nail into Germany’s coffin on the night.
